The tecdesk – Our Story and Mission

For over 40 years, Crime Prevention Services (CPS) has built its reputation as one of the UK’s leading independent security companies. Based on the A55 in Flintshire, our family-run business has supported homes and businesses across the country with trusted, innovative Fire and Security solutions, and we remain the only independent security company in Wales with our own in-house Alarm Receiving Centre.

As technology has evolved, so too have the needs of our clients. Fire and Security systems today rely heavily on IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, and digital connectivity. That’s where the idea for The tecdesk was born.

The Beginning of The tecdesk

Since 1982, we have specialised in safeguarding businesses, homes, and communities, offering a complete range of services and building long-term partnerships based on trust and performance.

As our business and client base grew, we recognised that to maintain the high standards our clients expect, we needed to bring monitoring of our Fire and Security systems in-house. Building our Alarm Receiving Centre was a bold step forward, allowing us to deliver a truly seamless customer experience from start to finish. Using state-of-the-art technology and the highest standards of service, we continue to provide reliable, efficient and personal monitoring solutions, setting us apart in the industry as the only independent security company in Wales to operate its own in-house monitoring station.

In recent years, the pace of technological change has accelerated at an unprecedented rate, transforming the way security systems operate. They now depend heavily on IT infrastructure and cloud-based systems. However, as systems became increasingly IT-driven, we often found ourselves working alongside clients’ third-party IT providers to get projects up and running. This often disrupted efficiency and extended delivery times for our clients.

For Karen Farrell, Managing Director of CPS and The tecdesk, the solution was clear:

“We wanted to extend the same promise of exceptional service and responsiveness from security into IT. By building our own in-house IT capability, we could deliver a complete, integrated experience that gave clients full confidence their systems were protected and connected.”

Welcoming Luke Murray to the team, with his deep understanding of Crime Prevention Services and our ethos, to lead the IT initiative felt like a natural step. Combining his technical expertise with our long-standing values of trust, transparency, and partnership, we established The tecdesk, a dedicated IT division created to complement and strengthen the ongoing services we offer our client base.

The story began by bringing our own IT in-house, fine-tuning the service and ensuring everything worked seamlessly before rolling it out to trusted clients. Seeing long-standing CPS clients, who had relied on us for their fire and security for years, also embrace our IT services was an incredibly rewarding moment for the entire team.

Now, with The tecdesk fully established, we’re proud to offer businesses across North Wales and North West England fully integrated support across both Fire & Security and now IT, ensuring they stay protected, productive, and future-ready.

Building on Strong Foundations

Brad Farrell, Director of CPS and The tecdesk, has worked across every part of the family business, from engineer through to sales and account management. He saw firsthand how IT had become inseparable from security.

“Having worked so closely with our customers at CPS, I recognised the growing need for reliable, honest IT support that could work hand-in-hand with their security setup. The tecdesk was built to meet that need, offering a trusted, joined-up approach. It’s incredibly rewarding to now bring that vision to life, and to see our clients embrace both security and IT support under one roof.”

Our Mission: IT Made Simple

At The tecdesk, we are more than an IT provider – we’re a partner to the SMEs we serve across North Wales and North West England. Our mission is to make IT simple, secure, and supportive, so businesses can focus on growth without worrying about downtime, cyber threats, or complex systems.

A Forward-Thinking Future

Luke Murray, Director of The tecdesk, explains what drives the vision forward:

“Technology should empower, not overwhelm. Our role is to make IT clear and accessible, helping SMEs unlock the tools they need to grow. The tecdesk was built to provide not just solutions, but confidence – the peace of mind that comes with knowing your IT is taken care of by a team you can trust.”

About The tecdesk

The tecdesk was created to bridge the gap between security and IT, delivering trusted, proactive support to SMEs across the region. Backed by the success of Crime Prevention Services, we are built on the same values: simplicity, honesty, customer focus, trust and expertise.

As Karen puts it,

“This new chapter feels like a natural and positive step forward – one that ensures we continue to grow and adapt to our clients’ evolving needs, while staying true to the values and family spirit that define us.”
